We had a wonderful time on our trip to Grand Cayman and came back refreshed in so many ways. It has felt like such a long winter this year. When we landed and stepped off the plane, Isaac looked at the grass and said, "Mommy, I've never seen grass before!" He just couldn't get over that there was grass. It was a lifetime ago to him!
Our first big adventure was right at the beginning of our trip. We had just checked in our bags and were headed to the security checks. There was a long line and we made it about half way when the boys started asking why we had to go through this. I was explaining to them that they were checking for weapons and just wanted to make sure that things were safe for our plane ride. About that time Caleb says, "I hope that it is okay that I have my toy gun in my backpack." Both Adam and my jaws dropped and we started to begin to think of our options. I looked at Caleb and he was looking scared. I think he thought they were going to take him away. About this time I remember faintly that Caleb did mention to me that he had his gun. He rattled off a bunch of things and I said that it sounded okay. I was not really paying attention, obviously. Well, my idea was to get out of the line and find a garbage to dispose of the gun, but Adam mentioned that it might look a little suspicious if we did that. We were almost to the front now and decided to tell one of the airport security that was checking passports and boarding passes. She informed us that it is not going to get through, so we asked if we could just throw it away somewhere. She leads Adam and Caleb to a garbage and tells them to make sure that they hold up the orange cap so people know it is a toy. We apologized and breathed a deep sigh of relief as we go through the scanners. Poor Caleb was so scared but I am certain that he will never bring a toy weapon to the airport again!!
I am so thankful for the opportunity to spend time with my in-laws even though I can never beat my father-in-law in any game. He wins all the time no matter what you are playing although he did opt out of Settlers and that was the game I won. Thank you both for a wonderful time!!!
I came home missing my mother-in-law's cooking and company in the kitchen!
We spent many days going to the beach and I don't think I can put into words the beauty of the ocean. Every time I visit it I am in awe of my great God. It just makes you think of His majesty and power. It is so humbling to me to think that the Creator of this world loves and cares for me.
Caleb and Micah really got into snorkeling with their dad. They both have improved in their swimming skills but I found myself constantly checking on them. Isaac who has no skills yet seemed to think that he could swim just as good as his big brothers; so the majority of the time, I was keeping him from drowning. :)
Adam's father is a pastor on the island at Calvary Baptist Church of Grand Cayman. Adam spoke at the church's Valentine Banquet and we had such a great time being a part of that celebration. The games were hilarious and we got roped into doing several of them. The funniest was watching several married couples eat pears that were hanging on strings while not using their hands. That was definitely a sight to see!
We then had a Sunday through Wednesday revival meeting at the church and Adam enjoyed getting to preach to the congregation there. It was a joy to be able to sing as a family and I had the privilege of playing for the services. That was such a treat and one particular time I remember thinking to myself that this is what it is going to be like in Heaven. Being united with Christians from around the world and singing praise to God. It gives me goosebumps to think of it.
We loved the chance we had to meet and getting to know people better this time. It is such an encouragement to be with fellow believers and hear how God is working in their lives. We are so thankful for the people there and were so overwhelmed by their kindness to us.
Now we are back and reality has set in, bundling up in heavy coats and shivering when you walk out into the cold. It was a challenge to look enthused in order to motivate my boys as we started back to school. Then, on top of that, two of the boys got Strep throat so it made for a tough week. I find myself daydreaming about those days on the beach and hope that the opportunity will come again some day soon! :)

Caleb's Birthday
I have been encouraged by some to get a new post up so I thought I better oblige. I still can't believe that January is gone and we are now into February. Our biggest highlight of the past month was celebrating Caleb's birthday. He was able to have an early party with his cousins and then we celebrated as a family on his actual birthday. He and I went out on a date to Culvers and had a wonderful time together. It is so interesting to just have the time to talk with my boys. Now I talk to them daily, but something special happens when we go on our date.
A few days later Caleb was able to have one of his good friends over to spend the night. They had a blast playing the new Wii we got for Christmas. During this celebration, Isaac asked if Caleb's birthday was over yet? It seemed to go on forever for him. :)
We are so excited to be headed to the Cayman Islands in just a few days. I can't even imagine what it is going to feel like to have 85-90 degree weather since we have been in the deep freeze here. It feels so weird to be packing summer clothes when it is so cold out. We are so looking forward to spending time with Adam's parents as well as their church family. Adam is preaching some meetings and we are praying for God to use our family to minister to the people there. We went last time seeking to be a blessing and ended up being blessed so much more. We will also have plenty of time to enjoy the beach. I can hardly wait!!!!!

Christmas Memories
It seems that Christmas comes and goes faster each year. All the anticipation and planning and then before you know it Christmas has past and all you have are the memories of that special day.
This Christmas was exciting for me to have my whole family celebrating at our home Christmas Day. Some of my favorite memories are:
*Watching my kids opening up their gifts
*Hearing about the early morning Bible study my dad had with his grandkids
*Beating my brother at ping-pong. :)
*Seeing the children acting out the Christmas story
*Shopping with my dad, mom, and sister
*Spending hours chatting with my sister in our pj's.
Today, though, I woke up with the "post Christmas blues". I was thinking of the tons of cleaning and laundry that needed to be done and all the other chores that were awaiting me. Then as the day progressed, my heart was rebuked. I started to think of all that I have in Christ and how much peace, joy, love, and hope that He brings. I can't imagine not knowing the true meaning of Christmas, and thinking that time with family and the giving and receiving of gifts was all there was. Those things are wonderful, but Christmas is so much more.
I can celebrate each and every day that my God loved me and gave me the most incredible gift, eternal life through His Son, Jesus. I am not sure what the new year holds for our family, but I thank the Lord that I can rest assured that He is in control. He will never leave me or forsake me. He will give me the grace to face whatever happens in the days ahead. I have cause to rejoice today!
Luke 1:46,47, and 49
...My soul magnifies the Lord, And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
For He who is mighty has done great things for me, and Holy is His Name.

Buddies
My mother-in-law wanted to see a picture of the collision between Bo and Isaac. They were playing outside when this happened. The picture really doesn't do it justice. He really looked like some Star Wars character. The boys would know which one, but I have absolutely no clue.
We are not sure if this is revenge on Bo's part since Isaac had poked him in the eye a week before this. They really do love each other and are inseparable. Notice the great ice pack I used. I never realized how useful a frozen tomato could be.

Holiday Baking
The boys had a blast making sugar cookies, but I think that they enjoyed playing with the left over dough more. By the end, you will notice that the shirts came off. I should have started them this way! We then made some cards and delivered some of the cookies to our neighbors. The boys were so proud of their work, and the neighbors said the cookies tasted delicious. Hopefully, they weren't just being nice! :)
